Tobin Gregg Englet
1952-2021
Tobin Gregg Englet, 69, loving and devoted husband, stepfather, brother, and uncle, passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2021. Born in Dallas on March 8, 1952, Tobin spent most of his life in the Houston area. At six years old, a paper route instilled a strong work ethic that began Tobin's rewarding and fulfilling career built on a foundation of his Christian faith, love of Texas, loyalty to family and compassion for others. Tobin strove for excellence in all things, especially in his role as partner and head estimator at Joshtom Millwork, an interior architectural woodworking company. Regarded by many as the go-to guy for creative solutions, he played integral roles in the completion of many noteworthy projects, including NRG (Reliant) Stadium, the Texas A&M Hotel and Conference Center, the U.S. National Archives, and the Gaertner Performing Arts Center at Sam Houston State University.
Tobin attended Lamar High for three years before joining the U.S. Merchant Marines at the age of 16. After a year of traveling in service to our country, he graduated from Bellaire High School then earned a Finance degree at the University of Houston.
Tobin, a true patriot, was known and respected for his civic duty and service to his community, serving as campaign chair, treasurer and supporter in the Democrat and Republican parties. Tobin often mentored and supported those within whom he had identified natural leadership traits. Most recently, he was the Treasurer of the Fort Bend County Republican Party.
Tobin is survived by the love of his life, Diane Mayeux Englet. They built a lifetime of loving and happy memories during their twelve years together. Tobin and Diane were a common fixture around the Houston area, attending galas and fundraisers for various nonprofit organizations, often times in coordinating costumes. But he really enjoyed spending joy-filled weekends watching college football, sitcoms and 3-D action movies or listening to music with the bass tuned to the loudest setting possible.
He is also survived by two stepsons, Duncan Hasell (Elsie) and Stephen Hasell; a brother, Kevin Englet (Tracy), and a devoted niece, Kellie Cook. Tobin is pre-deceased by his parents, Bea and Robert (Bob), and brother Gene.
Tobin will be remembered for leading a Godly life, always putting others first and never expecting anything in return, his loyalty to Diane and his work family, and for being the life of the party.
A celebration of Tobin's life will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 3300 Austin Parkway, Sugar Land, TX 77479. A reception will follow at the church at 3 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by the Settegast-Kopf Company in Sugar Creek.
The family asks that you consider Christ United Methodist Church for charitable gifts in Tobin's memory. https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/houstonchronicle/name/tobin-englet-obituary?id=31569794
