Lucille Leifeste (Music Teacher/Choir)

Lucille Florence Leifeste passed away on January 2, 2007 in Houston, Texas. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Rev. A A. Leifeste and Amalia Holze Leifeste on September 29, 1915.

She is a graduate of Blinn College, Brenham and Baylor University with a Bachelor of Music degree and a MA in Education from the University of Houston.

She taught choral music in HISD for 40 years in Thomas Edison Jr. High School, Steven F. Austin, Jeff Davis and Bellaire Senior High Schools.

A charter member of St. Marks Methodist Church, she directed its choir for 49 years. She was an accomplished pianist and soloed with the Houston Symphony and at the Museum of Fine Arts with the Tuesday Morning Series. Lucille was preceded in death by her brother, A. A. Leifeste, Jr.

She is survived by her brothers, William H. Leifeste of Midland, Texas and Dr. Homer F. Leifeste of Houston, Texas; seven nieces and nephews and numerous other friends and families. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00PM on Saturday, January 6, 2007, at St. Mark's United Methodist, 600 Pecore, Houston, Texas 77009, officiated by Rev. Marilyn Meeker-Williams and Rev. Gail Ford-Smith.
