Alice Marie Engel Beam was laid in her Heavenly Father's loving arms Dec. 21, 2012. Alice was born on Aug 26, 1953, in Houston to Emma and Herman Engel Jr.

She graduated from Texas Woman's University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in nursing.

Dedicating her entire life to caring for others, Alice worked as a registered nurse in various hospitals in Texas, ultimately committing the last 33 years of her service to East Texas Medical Center. She was loved and respected by all whom she encountered.

Alice's loving, and giving spirit not only touched the hearts of people, but it also led her to cherish and rescue countless animals. She could never look away from a stray animal, and they always seemed to find their way home with her.

Throughout Alice's life, she was sustained by her abiding faith in God, which she revealed to others on a daily basis.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Linda Engel Stevens; and infant niece, Sarah Irene Stevens.

Survivors include her loving husband, Scott Beam; her devoted sister and brother-in-law, Dee and Joe Landers; her two biggest fans, nieces, Allyson and Marian Russell; cousins, Bill Swartz and Josh Reaugh; niece and nephew, Maranda and Barry Hill; grand-nieces, Avery and Georgia Faith Hill; and brother-in-law, Ted Stevens.

Alice's dearest friends, Sharon Mapp and Becky Shawn, along with countless other friends and co-workers, are left to cherish her memory.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, Tyler, 75703. A memorial service will be held on a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to animal rescues, charities of choice or to the Food Pantry at Lanes Chapel United Methodist Church, 8720 Old Jacksonville Highway, Tyler, 75703.
