Henrietta Glass (Language Teacher)

HENRIETTA Kopilowitz GLASS, born in 1916 in Newark, New Jersey, passed away on January 9, 2009. Henrietta, the daughter of Harry and Eva Kopilowitz, a Distinguished Alumna of Montclair State Teacher's College also attended l'Universite de Bordeaux.

She was a mainstay of the language department at Bellaire Senior High School from its earliest days and taught French and Latin there for close to fifteen years. Many of her students have thanked her for the inspiration she gave to them.

She and her late husband, Irving, were founders of Brith Shalom in l955 and later became members of Temple Emanu El. Henrietta was active in a variety of academic and community organizations including the Alliance Francaise, Women's American ORT and the American Association of University Women. The French government awarded her the "Palm d'Or" for her work and her contribution to French culture.

She is survived by her son Edmund, of Manhattan and Garrison, NY, her son Jay of Laguna Beach, CA and Moran, WY and grandchildren, Alex of Manhattan and Lindsey of Los Angeles. A memorial service will be held at Levy Funeral Directors, 2:00 PM, Monday, January 12. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to charities of your choice serving abused children or a charity of your choice.
