Ralph Vernon Lunsford Jr.

Ralph Vernon Lunsford, Jr., 49, of Littleton, died January 20, 2003 in an avalanche while skiing in Canada. He is survived by his wife Debbie of Littleton; daughter Holly, and her fiancee Jens Butler of Denver; father Ralph Lunsford, Sr., of Beaumont, Texas; and brother Robert Lunsford of Porter, Texas. A Funeral service will be held Monday, January 27, 10 a.m., at Drinkwine Family Mortuary with visitation one hour before the service. Interment will follow at Littleton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to The Alpine Rescue Team, P.O. Box 934, Evergreen, CO 80437.

Ralph Lunsford was killed, along with 6 other skiers, in an avalanche in eastern British Columbia, near Revelstoke. The four Canadians and two other Americans who died in the accident are listed on the back of Lunsford's gravestone. The avalanche occurred on the Durrand Glacier. The seven who died were buried underneath snow and ice three to four meters deep.
