Dale W Elrod

Dale W Elrod

Dale Warren Elrod passed on unexpectedly Friday, September 21, 2012. He was born on September 15, 1952, in Alice, Texas, to Alex Warren and Rebecca Williamson Elrod. He is survived by his wife Karen of 26 years, son Canyon, Father Alex Warren Elrod Jr. (93), sisters, Catherine (Frank) May, Susan (Mike Anderson), niece Callie (John) Curtin, nephew Hansen (Cheasty) Anderson, in-laws Rick (Holly) Williams, Connie (Kyle) Hamilton, Steve Williams, Barry (Linda) Williams, and 23 Williams family members. He was preceded in death by mother Rebecca Elrod.

Dale carried with him a passion for family, film, nature, gardening, backpacking, Texas, travel, and so many other things. He had an ability to infuse those passions on to everyone close to him, especially his wife and son. It was through this ability and his love for film that he found his career, where he was able to share his passion and zeal for cinema with an ever expanding number of students in his 20 years teaching at the U of U. Dale had the wonderful talent to put all others before himself. He showed this in his work for Lower Millcreek Irrigation Company, where he spent countless unpaid hours laboring for his beloved community. He also toiled over every lecture and test, not content with reusing old material or settling for anything less than his idea of perfection. He will be forever loved and never forgotten.

I dated Dale in 11th grade and never met a sweeter guy. Funny, kind, smart. When I learned he was teaching film, I knew he found his calling. With much love, Marijane Rountree Wernsman
